Interesting - same HR as last year, over a minute slower. Unfit. Steady start, hoping for 24 minutes. Goal: 5k in 21 minutes, 59 seconds. Missed by 1 minute 47 seconds - my fastest 5k was 23:46 at the Tuggeranong Parkrun on 10 December. I have a goal of 22:45 for 5k in 2017.

Races: 5000m in 25:13.07, 5k road in 23:46, Melbourne 10k in 52:27, Gungahlin Gallop 10k Trail in 75:16, City to Surf 14k in 85:06, Wagga Trail 5k (long) in 26:21, Customs Joggers 5k in 25:09, Fisher's Ghost 5k in 24:23.

Numbers: I ran 2,096 kilometres, an average of 39.5 per week (53 weeks this year). Finished 59 races (many run as tempo runs). There were 128 days when I didn't run (way too many).

Other words: Probably my worst year (for results) since the 1990s, but at least it finished well. First half of the year was spoilt by injury and illness. The left calf injury took a long time to recover from. Enjoyed my training with the Speedygeese and friends. Looking forward very much to 2017!
