The Vikings Elite Athlete
Development Fund
At our 2001 Annual General Meeting Kelly Roberts was awarded the first grant under the Vikings Elite Athlete Development Fund. The purpose of the fund is to assist athletes who have the potential to break into the elite level of open competition.
In 2005 a sub-committee has undertaken the task of updating the criteria for membership of the VEADF. The main difference being there are now three levels of membership - Gold, Silver and Bronze. There are also new criteria for cross-country and mountain runners.
If you satisfy the criteria as set out below you are invited to apply in writing for membership of the VEADF. Members of the VEADF will be listed on this page.

Silver members receive a yearly grant of $600. Bronze members receive a yearly grant of $300 (updated amounts June 2019).
- The committee of SCT may reduce the level of grants if our VEADF fundraising is inadequate and there are insufficient funds left in the scheme.
- If a VEADF member improves to Silver or Gold standard during the year they receive the balance of funds only at their new level.
- VEADF members are expected to help out SCT on at least 3 occasions during the year. Examples are... helping officials at Interclub, helping at Fadden Pines, helping at the Golden Mile, performing committee duties, writing articles for 'Tuggie Athlete' and the SCT website.
- The qualifying year is from 1 January to 31 December. Grants are paid when the athlete becomes a member and then on the anniversary of membership provided the athlete has satisfied the criteria in the previous 12 months.
- To apply for VEADF membership you must write a letter outlining how you have met the qualifying criteria, including dates and locations of performances. This letter must include your athletics plans and goals for the next 12 months (in reasonable detail) and more general long-term athletics goals. You may send a duplicate of your letter by email.
